Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah, is an American rapper actress and singer. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and performer. Queen Latifah is a Newark New Jersey native. Her parents were Lancelot Sr. who was a policeman, and Rita, a educator in Irvington High School. Her parents divorced around the age of 10 years old. Latifah went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey and was raised by the Baptist Church. Latifah is her name for stage at the time she turned eight. It means very sensitive in Arabic. Latifah was always tall and tall. Standing 5'10" and was the power forward of her high-school basketball team. The song she sang was"Home" from The Wiz at a high-school play. Latifah started to beatbox for the rap group Ladies Fresh. Latifah joined the original Flavor Unit group, made up of a number of MCs and DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded an unreleased version of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. The recording was given to the host of Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was intrigued by the song. It was signed by Latifah and then released her debut single Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
