April Ross

April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is among a few female beach volleyball players to be able to do so. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic gold medal along with Alix Klineman, who is a first time Olympian. Ross aims to earn her Olympic first gold medal but she is also aiming for more. She was raised in Costa Mesa California where she resided with her parents and sister. Ross's athletic endeavors began at Newport Harbor High School where she was a part of a number of different sports. Being a pre-athlete she played indoor track and volleyball. Though she excelled when playing indoors but it was apparent that her abilities were higher than average. Based on her bio, she was a middle blocker and an outside hitter on the volleyball court throughout her time in high school. For her efforts she was named in 1999 as the Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. The skills she showed in volleyball also brought her an Orange County Athlete of the Years trophy in 2000. Ross Klineman and Ross may have started working together in 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned player at the beach before they teamed up. It's true that she has been able to win multiple events, and one was won by an iconic volleyball player. In the period 2007 to 2013 she teamed together with Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be a formidable force in the international circuit, winning a 2009 world title as a team. They eventually won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor won gold, overtaking them. Ross Jennings became Walsh Jennings partner in fate after Maytreanor's retirement. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball trophy in the Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC throughout her college prior to becoming a professional. Ross had an impressive run through the college. When she was a freshman in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. The Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss during her sophomore year, but she still repeated as an All-American. Through her last two years as a player, she led the Trojans up to the top of the mountain netting successive national titles. In 2003-2004, she was named the top female volleyball player at a collegiate level in America by the Honda Sports Award. Ross was an international relations major at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the privilege of watching Ross' daughter blossom into an international beach volleyball star. Ross's mom died from breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. She is devoted to her late parent. Margie, on the beach as well as in her everyday life, continues to inspire her.
